Pancit Bihon

My Daughter and Pancit
My special pancit with my special someone
I admit, I'm addicted to korean dramas. Having said that, I get my drama fix in a website that has a chatango chatroom like the one right here in my blog (actually, I got that chat idea from there). I've met a lot of interesting friends, and most of them share the same food love as I do: Pansit

Pansit, or pancit, or whatever you may want to call it, is a dish of stir fried rice noodles (bihon or sotanghon) that is made especially for birthdays. They say long noodles give you long life, and the longer the noodles, the better for pancit.

How to Purge Clams

Clams are so good and light in flavor. Unfortunately, they are packed with sand as much as they are light. I made my spaghetti alle vongole (spaghetti with clams) by modifying Chef Pasquale's recipe to fit the Filipino budget. In order to make this simple dish with modified ingredients still have bright flavors, time must be spent in purging the clams. The video below shows how clean and active (and hungry!) my clams were after spending a night undisturbed by curious me.

Having Siu Mai (Siomai) for Dinner

My little one is finally recovering from her sudden flu yesterday. We were to have my homemade siu mai last night, but she simply had no appetite for it.

Finally, she's better!

I made siu mai from scratch, and I also made my own chili sauce but without garlic.  The ones available in the net had some interesting ingredients that contributed to the taste and aroma of the chili sauce you typically get from Hen Lin or other fast food stalls in the mall.

I'll post pictures next time as, obviously, I'm just starting with my FoodBlogging stint. ;)

Spaghetti with clams (Spaghetti alle vongole)

Spaghetti With Clams
Spaghetti With Clams
It's mother's day and I am taking a break (at least for a couple of hours) from completing deadlines for my freelance job.  So what should a mother do for a special occasion? Cook up a weekend treat!

Egg Noodles in Sweet & Spicy Tomato Sauce

I was getting hungry this morning because I only ate a cup of champorado for breakfast.  I’m not exactly a fan of chocolate-flavored rice, and that meager portion would normally burn in my voracious stomach within minutes.  I was talking to Glen and he suggested spaghetti… But who said you have to adhere to a recipe to get satisfied.  As Chef Michael Smith at Food Network would say: “My recipe?  Cooking, without a recipe!”  So I came up with a simple, yet satisfying dish to help satisfy my craving, but fast enough to give instant gratification.  So, this “recipe” will be good for one person who has such an appetite as I do, but it can be good enough for 2.

Beat the Summer Heat with A Caffeine Fix

Today, the heat is just unbearable.  We have a big (as in BIG) container of coffee that is just sitting there, begging to be mixed.  The problem with that coffee is that it tastes better when made hot, according to my husband. But let's face it... who in the world would want to drink hot coffee in this humidity?  So, to prove him wrong I made a little surprise for him.  Ice-cold coffee made from scratch and not bought in some hideously expensive coffee shop.

Fish Lumpia Recipe

We used to have fish lumpia for breakfast or lunch before my husband and I moved out of my mom's house. The maid will buy pre-made fish lumpia at the market or from our neighbor whenever she would make one. As this is the Lenten season and meat is not allowed in the menu, I opted to make one myself.  My ingredients are:
